Psalm, Chapter 86
Pleading and Trust.
A Prayer of David.
86 Incline Your ear, Lord, and answer me;
For I am afflicted and needy.
- The title of this message is Pleading & Trust
o First you plead to God
o Then you trust He heard you & will help you
- Incline Your ear, Lord, and answer me
o Have you been pleading to the Lord lately?
o Did you ask Him to incline His ear?
o Do you believe He will?
o Are you expecting Him answer you or do you doubt it?’
o The key getting answers to your prayers are trusting that
§ God does hear
§ God does care
§ God will help
§ God will answer!
- For I am afflicted and needy
o Afflicted means wounded in some way (hurt, harmed, in need)
o Are you hurt and needing something from God?
o He is ready to help!
2 Protect my [a]soul, for I am godly;
You my God, save Your servant who trusts in You.
- Protect my soul, for I am godly
o The soul is the part of you that lives forever
o If you are godly it means you are god-like (Christ-like)
- You are my God, save Your servant who trusts in You
o You are my God (this is a declaration of relationship)
§ Have you made this declaration yet?
o Save Your servant
§ Have you asked God to save you yet?
§ Are you His servant? Are you serving Him?
o Who trusts in You
§ Do you trust in Him (in Jesus Christ)
§ He is a specific person not an ethereal concept
§ He is the one who died on a cross to save you!
3 Be gracious to me, Lord,
For I call upon You all day long.
- Be gracious to me, Lord
o This is how you get saved
o His grace is available to all who ask Him (God’s Riches At Christ’s Expense)
- For I call upon You all day long
o When was the last time you called upon Him?
o Do you do it all day long?
4 Make the soul of Your servant joyful,
For to You, Lord, I lift up my soul.
- Make the soul of Your servant joyful
o The focus on the eternal again (the soul)
o The focus is also on Joy (God will make you joyful for eternity)
- For to You, Lord, I life up my soul
o My prayers and trust and praise go up to God
o Then they rain down blessings
