Psalm, Chapter 90

God’s Eternity and Man’s Transitoriness.

A Prayer of [a]Moses, the man of God.

90 Lord, You have been our [b]dwelling place in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born
[c]Or You gave birth to the earth and the world,
Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.

-          The title of this message is God's eternity and man's Transitoriness

-          we see the timeline of the eternal God vs. man who is transitory (very short lived)

-          This is a prayer of Moses, the man of God

o   Moses means “drawn out”, “hidden”, “covered” or “extracted”

o   Moses was a man of God because

§  He was chosen by God

§  He chose God when he defended God’s people from the Egyptians

§  He chose a Godly life in the desert vs. a the riches of the palace

§  He chose to follow God back to Egypt and risk his life

-          Lord You have been our dwelling place in all generations

o   The Lord have been (past tense from eternity past; present; eternity forward

o   Always was, Always is, Always will be

-          Before the mountains were born or You gave birth to the earth and the world

o   We consider mountains thousands of years old (but not before God)

o   We consider the Earth old and the people which have been; but not before God)

o   To give birth means He was there and responsible for it

-          Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God

o   This is WHO HE IS

o   From eternity past to eternity forward

o   HE ALWAYS WILL BE

3 You turn man back into dust
And say, “Return, O children of men.”

-          You turn man back into dust

o   In other words, you see him born and die and turn to dust

o   The lifespan of a man is nothing to a eternal God

-          And say “Return, O children of men”

o   He makes them die and makes them born

o   He sees all the beginnings and ends before they ever happen

4 For a thousand years in Your sight
Are like yesterday when it passes by,
[d]Or as a watch in the night.

-          A thousand years in You sight

o   This is how God sees it

-          Are like yesterday when it passes by

o   Like one short day for us

o   God sees 1,000 years like one day to us

-          Or as a watch in the night

o   This means a single night

1,000 years is like one single night to God
