Genesis Chapter 3 - Adam & Eve

1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; 3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ ”

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. 5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate. 7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked

Gideon

Gideon begins to doubt God’s help and feel inadequate

Judges 6:13 Gideon said to Him, “O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, ‘Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.”

14 Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”

15 So he said to Him, “O my Lord, how can I save Israel? Indeed my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”

Judges 6:36 – the story of the fleece (one day wet, another day dry)

Not enough? God tells Gideon to go down and listen to the men talking about Gideon:

Judges 7:12 Now the Midianites and Amalekites, all the people of the East, were lying in the valley as numerous as locusts; and their camels were without number, as the sand by the seashore in multitude.

13 And when Gideon had come, there was a man telling a dream to his companion. He said, “I have had a dream: To my surprise, a loaf of barley bread tumbled into the camp of Midian; it came to a tent and struck it so that it fell and overturned, and the tent collapsed.”

Moses

Moses killed the Egyptian Exodus 2:12 and flees to Midian

While in Midian God puts a call on Moses life Exodus 3:4 (the burning bush)

Moses says “who am I” to tell Pharoh what to do  Exodus 3:11 (humility)

Moses says he has a slow tongue Exodus 4:10 (not an eloquent speaker)

God tells Moses that He will cause Pharoah to let His people go and they will come out with Gold & Jewels as well. (this has to sound impossible).

Moses felt woefully inadequate to do this but He went anyway.

Moses led the people out of bondage.

How about you?  Are you still caught up in some past sin and you think God can’t use you?  Do think “who am I”?  Do you think “I’m not an eloquent speaker”?  Does it seem like it’s impossible for you to make a difference?

Abraham & Sarah

Genesis 17:1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless. 2 And I will make My covenant between Me and you, and will multiply you exceedingly.” 3 Then Abram fell on his face, and God talked with him, saying: 4 “As for Me, behold, My covenant is with you, and you shall be a father of many nations.
