5 Tips to SLAY Your Engagement Shoot
- First, why should you do an engagement shoot?
- To get comfortable as a couple in front of a professional photographer (selfies don’t count!) and also to get to know your wedding photographer.
- This is an added level of comfort to meet your photographer beforehand, putting some wedding day anxiety as ease.
- Tip #1: Location, location, location. Find somewhere meaningful to you - a park, coffee shop, beach, mountains, food truck… make it personal to you as a couple.
- Plan in advance if you’re going somewhere that requires a permit, permission or a fee.
- Think about the timing and the weather - if you’re at an outdoor location, do you want to be out at the brightest time of the day? Or when the light is a little softer? Always involve your photographer in this decision. They know best!
- Tip #2: Get your hair and makeup professionally done. If you want to do a hair and makeup trial for your wedding, this is a great time to do it.
- Guys - shave your face, get a haircut, and look good, too!
- Tip #3: Put thought into your outfits. Your outfits should look good, complement each other, and also complement your location.
- Check out Pinterest (Tessa's OK with this for now...) for style inspiration and color pallets that work in your setting.
- DON’T: Don’t match the background, don’t add too much pattern or mismatched prints.
- Pro tip: Bring more than one outfit (a casual and formal outfit) to do different looks.
- Pro tip: Iron/steam/press your outfits beforehand! It makes a difference.
- Tip #4: Bring props if you want (like your BFF… best furry friend!!) but don’t overdo it. Keep this engagement shoot about the two of you.
- Tip #5: You’re all dressed up and looking good… do a date night after the engagement shoot!
