In this episode of the Healthcare Leadership Excellence Podcast, my colleague in The Coaching Group, Maz Antolin, and I delve into the topic of addressing the stigma around emotional health in workplaces. Our conversation emphasizes the importance of leadership in creating a supportive environment for employees dealing with these challenges.
We discuss how emotional health is just as vital as physical health, yet workplaces often lag behind in addressing this issue. There is a high prevalence of anxiety in Generation Z and leaders need to take proactive steps in providing resources and support for employees struggling with these conditions.
Leaders have a dual role: they must provide immediate support to employees facing emotional health challenges and, at the same time, help build resilience in the workforce. Instead of removing obstacles that might trigger anxiety, leaders should focus on helping employees develop problem-solving skills, emotional intelligence, and conflict-resolution abilities.
Lastly, we talked about a key item I learned from a recent meeting which is: high expectations and high caring from leaders motivate employees to strive for excellence.
