In this episode we are beginning a series on all things DEI and healthcare with our guest Leonor Marquez, the CEO of LBU Clinic in Dallas, Texas. She shares the beginnings of this clinic and how they are championing inclusive healthcare to overcome health inequities. They rebranded their clinics to make sure they were expanding their reach without leaving out those who were being overlooked. LBU “welcomes all.” The information that is shared encourages respect and care in the healthcare industry.

Leonor Márquez, MBA, MSW, LCSW
Chief Executive Officer 

Leonor Márquez is the Chief Executive Officer of LBU Community Clinic (formally known as Los Barrios Unidos Community Clinic), a large health center located in Dallas, Texas.  Born in El Paso, Leonor grew up in Tempe, Arizona.  She has a Bachelor of Social Work degree from Arizona State University, a Master of Social Work degree from Our Lady of the Lake University, and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio.  She holds a current Texas license as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  

Leonor has spent more than 30 years in community health care.  She joined LBU in 2005 and leads a team of 280 employees with a budget of $25 million.   The health center serves 30,000 customers through 90,000 doctor/patient visits, most of whom are low income and uninsured.  She has also worked as an administrator at Parkland Health & Hospital System where she ran the Health Care for the Homeless Program and the School Based Clinics.  She worked for many years in San Antonio as a Director at CentroMed, a large community health center.     

Leonor serves on the boards of Dallas Education Foundation, the Texas Association of Community Health Centers, the Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico, the Planned Parenthood Dallas Community Board, and the UT Southwestern Simmons Community Advisory Board.   In 2019 Leonor was the recipient of the La Cima Nonprofit Leader Award of the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.  Leonor is a member of the Dallas Assembly Class of 2021, and most recently, she was honored as one of Ford Motor Company’s Mujeres Legendarias.  She also mentors and tutors high school students and young professionals.
