I always say to myself as if talking to another - the first two things you have to understand is about karma and reincarnation
Without the understanding of these, the entire spiritual path and its ends are very difficult to grasp. One would do well to see karma - the results, the physic dna code of our intentions, acts and desires, that carries us from lifetime to lifetime in various costumes and through various spheres of reality. the entire point of practice is ultimately to burn out and create no new karma, so that a being is completely liberated, no longer subject to the law and powers of nature (The karmic flow). So as a separate soul one comes into being, lives a tremendously long time, creating karma, enjoying and suffering, and then eventually begins to awaken to their true nature, beyond the separateness and beyond the karma.
There is much more that can be said here, and hopefully listening to the video will further the explanation and integration of these understandings.
