Many of us long ago threw away the Christian idea of being damned to hell. However, as I studied the great works of the worlds mystical, religious and spiritual traditions such as the Tibetan Book of the Dead and the Mahabharata, I realized that every tradition seemed to be aware of these hell realms. Realms of intense suffering and torture. These stories were not created from any kind of fear, but are realized truths that came through connected beings or those who realized this through altering their states of consciousness. Even Christ talked about places with gnashing of the teeth. In the infinite varieties and polarities of existence, yes, there are hell realms and beings go to them. You can be in them for a very long time and they can involve intense suffering. One can say this is false because they don't want to think about it etc, but it doesn't change the fact that these realms do exist in relativity the same way that we do this second.
