Feeling seen by others is an evolutionary trait and a basic human need.
If the tribe didn’t recognize you, you’d risk being left behind, exiled, or called to fight. In other words, not being seen was a death sentence.
Our lives today may look different than our ancestors. But the primitive part of our brains hasn’t caught up with modernity. Not feeling seen evokes those ancient fears, which feel like inadequacy. Not measuring up. Not worthy. And can leave us empty and even broken.
