Description

In this episode, we spoke to Aussie Marathoner Lee Troop and discussed his experiences of competing in the Sydney, Athens and Beijing Olympic Games.

Lee or 'Troopy' as he's affectionately known as in Australia, broke the Australian 5000m record in 1999 and ran a blistering 2:09:49 Marathon PB in 2003. It wasn't all plain sailing though, and Lee contended with plenty of ups and downs throughout his career making him one of the more enigmatic characters on the Marathon circuit. Troopy discusses his jet-setting journey into competitive running and has some memorable anecdotes about his time in Texas and working with iconic figures like Steve Moneghetti.

We also discussed the mental health issues that are prevalent amongst those competing at elite levels. Lee's frank and personal stories offer an important insight into the pressures that Athletes face and he has a wealth of experience in the industry, making for a unique perspective.

Lee's continued to pursue his love for running since moving to Boulder in 2009, he began coaching in 2011 and his stable includes exciting talents like Laura Thweatt and Olympic Marathon qualifier Jake Riley. We discuss this and even touch upon the 'Super Shoe' debate - dive on in.
