When my good friend Dr. Amen Sergew and I started discussing how to improve the care of our patients, we were clear that one of the important aspects of improvement should be to elevate our own spirits. As many of you know, Doctors are hurting now more than ever.
A year ago, we came up with the idea of creating an open and diverse community where we would learn from each other. We called these meetings "CoExist". They happen about every 6 weeks and the level of trust, sharing, vulnerability, and courage from every single speaker as well as every member continues to blow my mind.
Yesterday Amen talked about her experience as a pulmonary doc caring for hospitalized patients during the heights of Covid19 in NYC and LA and how it made her pause and look at what was important for her in her life. She then made the courageous decision to let go of her academic life. She was a superstar and one of these docs that made working at this institution a pleasure. Well, she still is a superstar, but took off on her own path and is now more in tune with what she wants to do in the world. Her story is inspiring.
So were what the attendees shared after.
I am so grateful to be surrounded by amazing human beings and to continuously meet more people that inspire me. This group is one of a kind and I am so thankful for everyone that is willing to be part of it.
