About Lisa Spector:

From the very first moment Lisa heard her mother play piano when she was seven, the keys were a magnet to her fingers. Her desire to spend her childhood on a piano bench, combined with her dedication, got her into Juilliard when she was 17. After receiving her graduate degree at U.S.C., she won first prizes in the New York and Los Angeles Chopin Competitions and performed internationally in China, Poland, Spain, France and Italy.

Lisa first became an entrepreneur in 1997 when she opened a music school in Half Moon Bay, a coastal community outside of San Francisco. Her mission was to enrich lives in her community with exceptional music and educate through joy and encouragement. She grew the school from one piano instructor to a team of five faculty members teaching piano, voice, guitar, flute, and ukulele.

Years later, she sold Lisa Spector’s Music School when she created a business that combined her music talents with her love of dogs. Through a Dog’s Ear, music for pet anxiety, was launched on The CBS Early Show in February 2008.

One hour of music for dogs grew into 16 albums for dogs and cats, iCalmDog and iCalmCat portable players, hours of calming music on streaming channels, and now her piano playing is soothing pets in over 1,500 shelters worldwide, along with vet clinics and pet households. She's been featured as The Pet Calming Maestro on NPR, ABC Australia, Martha Stewart Living Radio, The CBS Early Show, USA Today and The San Francisco Chronicle.

Then a traumatic fall in June of 2017 shattered her right hand and pivoted her life in a completely new direction, inspiring her to leave her pet business and return to her love of making music. After several surgeries for seven complicated fractures, she dove into music for left hand only.

She shares her heart and home with Gina, her 12 year old, agility champion black Lab. She adopted her at 16 months, when she was “career changed” from Guide Dogs for the Blind, where she is a former volunteer puppy raiser.

Whether you’re listening to her music for dogs, cats, or people or experiencing her music enthusiasm as an educator, she puts her heart at the center of music.
