Welcome to episode 34 of The Life Right Here podcast. Thank you for joining me today - this topic The Medicine of Silence is one I’ve had in mind for a while now and now more than ever I think it’s really relevant. As the world gets noisier.
My ideas around silence have been building since I was a teenager I think! As a highly sensitive person (and some of you might identify as highly sensitive too) I am someone who craves silence and solitude - I like being on my own regularly - and I need it actually to re-calibrate but I think in a modern society that is filled with noise and over stimulation - whether you are highly sensitive or not - regular silence is a necessity and I don’t just mean when you go to bed at night. I mean throughout the waking hours of your daily life.
Just pause to think about that - do you consciously cultivate silence in your daily life? We tend to fill our silences with music, podcasts, TV or whatever screen we’re watching.
In this episode I share some of a poem called Sharing Silence by Gunilla Norris as well as research supporting the benefits of silence for our brain, mental and physical health. How might you cultivate just 1 minute of silence each day - and treasure it?
Let me know how you go!
