THE CHRISTIAN’S HOPE: THE LORD WILL RETURN (2 Peter 3:1-18)
A. THE MOCKERY OF THE LAST DAYS (2 Peter 1-10)
1. The Remembrance (verses 1-2)
2. The Mockery (verses 3-4)
3. The Rebuttal (verses 5-7)
Principle: We must remember the Words and Promises of God lest we be tainted by the world’s denial of Jesus and His return.
Application: Is Jesus your “celestial fix”? What ways are you turning to God and “SON-testing” the teachings of our day?
B. THE DOCTRINE OF THE LORD’S RETURN (v. 8-13)
1. God Guarantees It (verses 8-9)
2. Peter Describes It (verse 10-11)

- WHAT IS THE DAY OF THE LORD? (Isa.13:9-11, Zech.14:1-9)

- WHAT IS THE JUDGMENT SEAT OF CHRIST? (2 Cori. 5:10)
- WHAT IS THE TRIBULATION? (Rev. 5:8-14, Jere. 30:7, Dan.12:10, Zech. 13:7-9, Rev. 7:9)
- WHO IS THE ANTICHRIST? (1 Thes. 2:1-12, Rev. 13:1-18, 2 Thes.2:4, Dan.9:27)
- WHAT IS THE SECOND COMING OF CHRIST? (Matt.24:30; Rev. 19:11-21; Matt. 25:31- 46; Matt.25:1-11; Rev. 20:4-6; Dan.12:2)
- WHAT IS THE MILLENNIAL KINGDOM? (Isa. 11:9; Zech.14:9; Micah 4:1-2; Isa.9:6-7 Eze.34:23-25)
- WHAT IS THE GREAT WHITE THRONE? (Rev. 20:10-15)
- WHAT ARE THE NEW HEAVENS AND NEW EARTH? (Rev. 21:1-27)
Principle: God’s Word says it; therefore, it is true; and therefore, I believe it! Christ will return!!
Application: Knowing these truths about Christ’s return and His coming Kingdom, how are you living each day? Who will you share the hope of Jesus with this month?
C. PETER EXHORTS THE BELIEVERS TO HOLINESS (verses 11-18)
1. verse 11: be holy in conduct and holiness
2. verse 14: be watchful
3. verse 14: be diligent to be found in Him in peace
4. verse 14: be spotless and blameless
5. verse 15: be witnessing
6. verse 17: be careful not to get carried away
7. verse 17: be steadfast
8. verse 18: be growing in grace and knowledge
Principle: While we wait for Christ’s return, we must seek to remain true to Christ and to grow to be more Christ-like.
Application: What steps will you take to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus so that you look and act more like Jesus this time next month? Next year? Be intentional!
