Hands up if we have any Evergrey fans in the house?
Well, I had the honour of chatting to their bass player Johan Niemann about his solo project. He has just released his debut album "Karnivore" which pays tribute to the late Mick Karn. Johan is a big fan of the art rock/new wave band Japan and Mick Karns distinctive fretless bass playing is partly what influenced Johan to pursue his solo career alongside Evergrey and release this wonderful album..
Johan Co-Founded the band Minds Eye and during his lengthy career has also been a member of Therion and Evil Masquerade amongst others.
This man is probably one of the most humble people I have ever had the pleasure of chatting to, his bass project when I listen to it takes me back to my old PS1 days and the tracks on the album wouldn't sound out of place on any of the old school games, its almost like being trapped back in the 90's!
Often the bass is overpowered by the other instruments in a band and what a fantastic opportunity to be able to hear the bass guitar in all its glory!
There's definitely a lot of groove going on and each track takes you on a different journey, for the duration of this album I zoned out and had a break from the real world!
We also spoke very fondly of Solar Guitars, founded by the wonderful Ola Englund and how he makes guitars at affordable prices, supporting grassroots bands and his famous YouTube channel which offers guitar lessons, gear reviews and a whole lot more-If you haven't already then make sure you subscribe to his channel!
Please take time out to have a listen to this work of art that Johan has worked so hard in producing, you can find the album by following the link blow.
