This message tells us that Peter wanted to pay temple tax but they didn't have the money.
They needed to pay temple tax to be considered Jews.
This was important to Peter, Jesus knew this and commanded him to go fishing.
Told him to open the mouth of the first fish and he would find the coin to pay the temple tax.
This would show many things in this story. 
Peter trusted GOD and Jesus to provide for them.
Nothing is impossible for GOD.
