This 19 year old MAMITA in a Mission shares her story on how she is making change happen!
Kaylhan Garcia is a Mexican American, proud product of immigrants. She was born and raised in Galveston, TX where she attended Austin Middle School and Ball High School.
Throughout her high school career, Kaylhan was not only an exceptional student, but she was also involved in her high school's marching band and ultimately became Drum Major for the 2020-2021 academic year. This position gave her valuable insight on what it meant to be a leader and represent a group of dedicated individuals who loved playing music.
Kaylhan is currently studying at American University located in Washington D.C.. By 2024, she will have her BS in Data Science for Justice, Law and Criminology. She was a culture and opinion writer for the Blackprint at AU and a member of their media team. She was involved in video and writing projects for Hispanic Heritage Month, Day of the Dead, and local businesses ran by the Hispanic community. Kaylhan is now serving on the Mexican Cultural Club E-board as Community Outreach Coordina
