Description

Jennie Himes (she/her) is a mom, a partner, a friend, athlete, an ultrarunner, and a dog mama. She is a lover of ghost towns, mountains, trails, fall leaves, and adventures. Jennie has hiked 23 of Colorado’s 14ers and completed her first 50k race last year and has many more ultras and trail runs in her future. She is a first responder working 911 dispatch and supervisor of Park County Communications, taking care of humans and keeping her cool during very intense situations. Jennie is an ambassador for Bigger Than The Trail, an organization that is using trail running as a platform to advocate for mental health, coming alongside individuals and providing educational support and treatment options. Jennie shows up for people in a beautiful way. She is strong, determined, curious, and fierce. She perseveres and she rises. All the time. Jennie is authentically herself and an amazing human being.

Jennie talks about growing up with an alcoholic father and how it impacted her throughout her life and how having her son saved her life. She is vulnerable about how she processed through her anger in ways that did not serve her. Jennie talks about her relationship with her mom, Ann, and how her mom never gave up on her. The mountain is Jennie's refuge and grounding place, a place she can disconnect. Jennie looks forward to strengthening her body and experiencing the Grand Canyon, doing the Rim 2 Rim 2 Rim in October. Exploring is calming for her and supports her mental health. Jennie is an advocate for mental health awareness, accessibility to counseling, and the importance of asking for help. She shares the challenge for her to feel good enough and the effort required to create positive self-talk.
