In the second installment of our podcast series from the conference on the Evolutionary Origins of the Human Mind at the International Institute for Advanced Studies (IIAS), we spoke with Dr. William McGrew, Emeritus Professor of Evolutionary Primatology in the Division of Biological Anthropology, Department of Archaeology and Anthropology, University of Cambridge.
We chatted with Dr. McGrew about his long career studying chimpanzees across Africa, depth versus breadth in scientific inquiry, cultural primatology and primate Archaeology, and the necessity to understand changing primate cultures in the face of increasing human encroachment.
Dr. McGrew is a prominent biological anthropologist who has written numerous influential scientific and popular works about primate behavior, ecology, and culture, including the books "Chimpanzee Material Culture: Implications for Human Evolution" and "The Cultured Chimpanzee: Reflections on Cultural Primatology".
