Having retired in 2014 Deirdre Kane left the game of women's basketball as West Chester University's all-time winningest coach with 447 victories in her 27 years at the helm.
Since beginning her coaching career, Kane has helped advance women's basketball and athletics through Title IX. She was the first woman to be awarded a scholarship at the University of Dayton. Kane also helped negotiate the first union contract for all coaches across all sports in PSAC (Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference).
In this episode, Kane discusses the role of parents, what she looked for in the recruitment of basketball players and why the sport is losing athletes to other youth sports.
