Saturday Night Popcorn is back with another episode of movie madness! This week, we’re taking on one of the most notorious flops of all time: Battlefield Earth.
Released in 2000, this sci-fi disaster stars John Travolta as a ruthless alien overlord who enslaves humanity in the year 3000. Based on the novel by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard, the film was a passion project for Travolta, who also co-produced and helped finance it. But despite his enthusiasm, the film was a critical and commercial failure, earning a dismal 3% on Rotten Tomatoes and losing millions of dollars at the box office . It also won a record-breaking eight Razzie Awards, including Worst Picture of the Decade . Join us as we dissect the many flaws of this cinematic catastrophe, from the laughable plot and dialogue, to the atrocious acting and special effects, to the infamous Dutch angles and long tongues.
Don’t miss this hilarious and insightful episode of Saturday Night Popcorn, where we roast Battlefield Earth like a man-animal on a spit!
*Spoiler Warning* As a general warning we discuss the film in detail and often will comment on scenes or aspects of the film that could spoil it for a listener who has not seen the film we are discussing.
