We often hear the term functional alcoholic to describe someone who drinks alcoholically but is able to meet the basic requirements in life like maintaining a job and paying their bills.
When I first heard this term, I knew that is what I wanted to be.
I never wanted to be a normal drinker. The idea of having one or two drinks did not appeal to me.
I liked to get drunk.
I wanted all the fun without the consequences and I thought that was what being a functional alcoholic would be like.
But is that even possible? Can someone be a functional alcoholic? And if so, is there a way to maintain that status, or is it just a phase on the way to being a full-blown alcoholic?
Well, that is what we talk about in this episode.
