Hello! It's a bonus drop!

In this second introductory episode, I talk about how we are the choices we make.  Now, that's not something a lot of us like to admit to, because it means that we have to own some of the messier things in our lives that we would rather not! And most of us don't want to admit that we've maybe abdicated responsibility for our own lives out of a response to those around us.

But the reality is, is that we have formed a set of belief systems and stories that we tell ourselves and they have shaped the way we see the world. This has left all of us carrying around  physical, mental and emotional pain. We're overburdened, stressed, burnt out and isolated from our authentic selves.

Even though we live in a time and place that mental health is more openly talked about than ever before, mental health disorders across nations and generations are more prevalent now than at any other time in history.  Disordered behaviours and thoughts have led to depression, anxiety and an overall sense of worthlessness. We're hurting psychologically. And when we hurt internally by the thoughts we propagate , and the belief systems we clutch to our hearts, we find other ways to hurt ourselves  as well.  And often this is manifested in physical ways. What we think we are keeping in, will eventually come out.  It might come out as illness or addiction, obesity, anger. It might present in how you shut down or act out. No matter how much we try to hide it, or how blind we may be to our pain, trust me, it's showing up in your life in some way, if not multiple ways.

Can you name one person in your life that has never had any type of physical diseases or illnesses? Do you know someone that always seems to bear a grudge or is just always angry? Perhaps you currently believe that nothing in your life ever goes right for you, and so, a self-fulfilling prophecy is born.

When I was a kid, I don't ever really remember being unwell. But as I got older, my health decreased. I see now, a lot of the health issues I have had in the past, or even in the last year, have been the physical addendum to the way I have thought, felt and believed about my life. So recognising the impact we have on our physical body in the thoughts we think and the language we choose when speaking to ourselves is an important step in our recovery journey.

When we understand this, and then choose to take back our power in the ways we think and feel about ourselves,  we'll start to see how all these falsehoods and denials have had a direct impact on how our body responds. (This is all stuff we'll get into in upcoming episodes!)

Anyway,  this episode gives us time to think about what choices we've been making in our lives up to now.  Are they ones that hurt us or help us?  Are our choices made out of fear or love? You'll know which by how you FEEL when you have to make a decision on something.

This episodes quote is from Nelson Mandela, a man who spent decades as a political prisoner, but refused to give up hope.  Mandela was an activist who spent his life tearing down the systematic tyranny of apartheid and in the process became one of South Africa's , and the world's, finest leader. It is in these words we so clearly see his courage and commitment to be the change so desperately needed.

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”
