Day 248 — God Prepares the Way
Luke 1:1–25

Today in The Story of Scripture, we step into the New Testament—and we begin in Luke because we are following the story chronologically. Before Gabriel announces the birth of Jesus, God first announces the birth of John the Baptist, the promised messenger who would prepare the way for the Messiah.

For centuries, Israel had waited in silence. But God had not forgotten His promises. In Luke 1, He speaks again through Gabriel to an aging priest named Zechariah and his wife Elizabeth. Their story reminds us that God’s silence does not mean God’s absence.

John would come “in the spirit and power of Elijah,” directly connecting Luke 1 to the closing promise of Malachi. The Old Testament had ended with the promise of a messenger. The New Testament begins with God saying, in effect, “The messenger is coming—and the King is not far behind.”

There is also a deeply personal truth here. Zechariah and Elizabeth had waited, prayed, served faithfully, and still carried disappointment. Yet heaven had not forgotten them. Sometimes God is doing His deepest work during the seasons when we cannot see Him moving.

Silence does not mean absence.
Delay does not mean abandonment.
And when God makes a promise, time cannot cancel it.

The messenger is coming.
The King is coming.
God is preparing the way.
