Day 274 — “A Glimpse of Glory” Matthew 17 | The Story of Scripture

Before the disciples would witness the suffering of Jesus, God allowed three of them to see a glimpse of His glory.

On a mountain, Peter, James, and John watched as Jesus was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, His clothes became white as light, and Moses and Elijah appeared beside Him.

Then the Father spoke:

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” — Matthew 17:5

What a powerful moment!

Moses represented the Law. Elijah represented the Prophets. But standing before them was Someone greater—the One to whom all Scripture had been pointing.

Jesus did not become divine on that mountain. He revealed the glory that had always belonged to Him.

And don't miss what happened next. The disciples fell on their faces in fear, but Jesus approached them, touched them, and said, “Rise, and have no fear.”

The glorious Christ is also the gracious Christ.

Soon, those same disciples would watch Jesus suffer and die on a cross. But the mountain reminded them that His suffering was not a defeat. The glorious Son of God would willingly give His life for sinners and rise again in victory.

Whatever difficult season you are walking through today, remember:

The Jesus who walked down that mountain toward the cross is the same Jesus who conquered the grave and will one day return in glory.

Trust Him when the road is difficult. Follow Him when obedience is costly. Remember His glory when suffering comes.

And above every competing voice in your life, hear the words of the Father:

“Listen to Him.”
