Day 279 — Woe to Hypocrisy
📖 Matthew 23
Jesus had some of His strongest words for people who looked religious on the outside but were far from God on the inside.
The Pharisees knew Scripture, taught Scripture, prayed publicly, and were respected by others—but Jesus saw beneath the surface.
He exposed the danger of hypocrisy:
“They preach, but do not practice.”
Matthew 23 reminds us that God is not impressed by appearances. He wants more than the right words, the right image, or the right religious activity.
He wants hearts that are sincere, humble, obedient, and genuinely devoted to Him.
So instead of asking, “Who does this remind me of?” perhaps the better question is:
“Lord, is there any of this in me?”
The good news is that Jesus did not come only to expose hypocrites. He came to save sinners. There is grace when we stop pretending, repent, and come honestly to Him.
God is not looking for a religious performance. He is forming a people whose hearts truly belong to Him.
