DAY 289 — “PEACE BE WITH YOU” 🔥
📖 John 20 | The Story of Scripture
Sometimes the greatest battle we face isn't what's happening around us. It's the fear, uncertainty, and doubt taking place within us.
In John 20, we find the disciples hiding behind locked doors.
Jesus has been crucified. Their world has been turned upside down. The religious leaders who demanded His death are still in power, and the disciples are afraid they might be next.
These are the same men who watched Jesus calm storms, heal the sick, and raise the dead.
They had witnessed His power firsthand.
Yet now, fear had overwhelmed their confidence.
And then something extraordinary happens.
The risen Jesus stands in the middle of their fear and says:
📖 “Peace be with you.” — John 20:19
Don't miss the significance of those words!
Jesus didn't enter that room promising the disciples that everything would suddenly become easy.
He didn't promise that opposition would disappear, persecution would end, or their circumstances would immediately improve.
He offered them something infinitely greater—peace rooted in His finished work on the cross and His victory over the grave!
The doors were still locked. The enemies were still outside. The uncertainty hadn't disappeared.
But Jesus was alive!
And that changed everything.
Then we encounter Thomas.
Thomas had heard the testimony of the other disciples, but he refused to believe without seeing the evidence for himself.
And eight days later, Jesus appeared again.
Rather than ignoring Thomas, Jesus confronted his unbelief and invited him to examine the evidence of His resurrection.
Then He said:
📖 “Do not disbelieve, but believe.” — John 20:27
What a powerful reminder!
The grace of Jesus doesn't mean He leaves us in our doubt. His grace calls us out of unbelief and into deeper faith.
And Thomas responds with one of the greatest declarations in the entire New Testament:
“My Lord and my God!” — John 20:28
Church, there is something incredibly important for us to understand.
Our peace is not found in having every question answered.
Our confidence is not found in knowing how every situation will turn out.
And our hope is not built upon the strength of our emotions.
Our peace rests in the finished work of Jesus Christ!
The cross wasn't a defeat.
The tomb wasn't the end.
And the resurrection wasn't simply a miracle to admire.
It was God's declaration that Jesus Christ had conquered sin and death!
Romans 5:1 reminds us that because we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
And that is the greatest peace anyone can ever experience.
Maybe today you're walking through uncertainty. Maybe you're carrying fears you haven't shared with anyone. Maybe disappointment has caused you to question what God is doing.
Remember this:
🔥 The answer to fear is not greater control over your circumstances. It's greater confidence in the risen Christ.
And here's something else worth remembering:
Jesus didn't enter that locked room to tell the disciples they would never face another storm. He came to show them that death itself had already been defeated!
The same Savior who stood before those frightened disciples is the Savior we worship today.
He is alive.
His Word is trustworthy.
His sacrifice is sufficient.
And His promises remain secure.
