Episode 6 of Artist & Place featuring a lovely conversation with Priya N. Green, a painter, muralist and educator living and working in Western Mass. Her work explores the tension between realism and abstraction through layers of paint application and monochromatic tones. Priya states "I paint to challenge the viewers perception of what is real." Priya has shown her work internationally and is a recipient of the International Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant, a fellowship from the University of Massachusetts Amherst, several public art commissions and work in several private and public collections. Priya will be having a solo exhibition called Artifice: New Paintings, at the Springfield Museum of Art this coming April 15 through December 31st. This is a conversation about learning to be uncomfortable, persisting and the excavating of imagery to find containers for meaning. We talk about what it is to be an outsider and how that can help us as artists. Please enjoy!
