Another great weekend in sports inspires another Son and Pop discussion on the latest events. This was a big weekend in sports, with a lot happening in college football, the first NFL game came and went, and training camps are kicking off. Plus, Major League Baseball is heating up, making now an excellent opportunity to bring some personal perspective to the latest news and headlines.
Everybody seems to be really excited about Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson. There’s been a lot of pre-season hype around him, and he had a really good game in game one of the preseason. However, many people have probably felt apathy towards the preseason, since the games seem less compelling this year. These games are background noise for your other daily activities, since most people pay attention only to see how the draft picks are performing.
More excitingly (though not particularly happily) there is big news and headlines concerning the training camps. Zack Martin continues his holdout from the Cowboys’ camp, with no sign of breaking the stalemate over income negotiations. On top of that news, two wide receivers from the Broncos are out of commission, with Tim Patrick injuring his left Achilles and KJ Hammer’s diagnosis of a non-life-threatening heart condition that will keep him out for weeks to months.
Things in the MLB have been interesting, with some true gameplay contrasted with some lackadaisical gameplay, but there was fire and fury on the field when Jose Ramirez and Tim Anderson got into a scuffle that ended in blows.
Whether it’s college or NFL level football, game-related or nogame-related troubles, there is always something making headlines in sports. These sports have many facets to them that make them endlessly fascinating to discuss and speculate on.
