Today, I sit down with Shane Jacob, a life coach, podcaster, and founder of The Horsemanship Journey—an organization that helps teens and parents navigate emotional struggles and build identity through horses, personal responsibility, and faith. From over twenty years of daily alcohol abuse, jail time, and relational collapse, to a life now rooted in coaching, family, and faith, Mr. Jacob walks us through how he rebuilt not only his life—but his mind.

We dig deep into how addiction can be driven by shame, inadequacy, and negative core beliefs formed without trauma. Mr. Jacob shares how alcohol silenced his inner voice of self-doubt for years—and how shame kept him spiraling long after the damage was done. But everything changed when he turned to God and horses. He breaks down how horsemanship became a metaphor for communication, emotional management, and forgiveness—not only for others, but for himself.

We also explore the difference between self-love and self-belief, and why Mr. Jacob says “loving yourself isn’t just a good idea—it’s your duty.” He explains how social media, external pressures, and culture cloud the way young people value themselves, and how we as parents and mentors can lead them into resilience, purpose, and ownership.
