There are 4 common postpartum patterns in the pelvis after birth and one of them is harder to find than the others which  is why I call it the hidden pattern.  Do you know which one it is? 

In today’s episode I reveal which one it is and how you can look for it in your clients. 


Do you know what the most hidden common postpartum pattern is?

In today’s episode Lynn discusses the most hidden common postpartum pattern in the body, the Sacral Flexion Pattern, along with the signs and objective findings for this pattern. 

Lynn reviews what happens to the sacrum when the baby enters the outlet of the pelvis and comes out. In order for this to happen the sacral base needs to flex forward and the tailbone moves posterior. This creates increased space for the baby’s head to navigate through the pelvic floor muscles and out of the vaginal canal. Due to varying shapes and sizes of the sacrum and coccyx it is important to assess this space in our clients. The more rounded and less space there is between the pubic and tailbone requires greater motion of the sacrum. Mom’s are encouraged to labor on their side or in a position other than supine when this is the case. As the birth progresses the sacrum moves posteriorly and you are able to easily observe the sacral flexion during the birthing process. After the labor is over you will know if your client’s body is holding onto this pattern because: 

1. They complain that they are uncomfortable when they lay flat on the floor.  

2 Upon assessment, you find bilateral coccygeus tightness.
