What is deliverance?

It means to rescue from evil.

So when we are being 'delivered' by God, we are being rescued from evil.

Deliver: to draw to one's self, to rescue.

13 And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. (Matthew 6:13)

Why do we need deliverance?

#1 Remove hindrances in your life.

15 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world. 17 And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever. (1 John 2:15-17)

#2 Destroy the works of the enemy

8 He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. (1 John 3:8)

#3 Bring total deliverance in our soul, spirit & body

18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;(Luke 4:18)

What is God's plan on deliverance?

(Galatians 4:1-6)
(Genesis 3:14-15)

Now here is the psalmist David asking the Lord to deliver him from his own enemies.

As you read these verses, you can see the humility David has towards the Lord.

He was truly a man after God's heart even in his own trials.

1 In You, O Lord, I put my trust;
Let me never be put to shame.
2 Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape;
Incline Your ear to me, and save me.
3 Be my [a]strong refuge,
To which I may resort continually;
You have given the commandment to save me,
For You are my rock and my fortress.

4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked,
Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
5 For You are my hope, O Lord God;
You are my trust from my youth.
6 By You I have been [b]upheld from birth;
You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.
My praise shall be continually of You. (Psalm 71:1-6)
