"Everyone deserves equal care - be an advocate and fight for what is best for your loved one."
JJ, Natalie, and Emilie are three sisters who have experienced the difficult journey of placing their mom in a nursing home. They share their story on the Confessions of a Reluctant Caregiver podcast, helping others understand the complexities of the aging process.
JJ, Natalie, and Emilie had finally made the gut wrenching decision to place their mother in a nursing home. While they believed that would be the most difficult part of the caregiving journey, boy were they in for a wide awakening!
Assured that 30 days would be more than sufficient to get their mother’s placement in a skilled nursing community approved, they get notice on the condo that their mother and sister Emilie had been residing. As moving day got closer and closer, and the denials kept coming in, they decided to take action and personally advocate for their mother's care. Through their research and understanding of regulations, they connected with an admissions person and built a rapport. After explaining the medical needs and circumstances, they got a yes to admit their mother the very next day. With a combination of persistence and empathy, they could get to their yes.
