The Gypsy Rose Blanchard case involves a complex web of deception, abuse, and ultimately, murder. Gypsy Rose Blanchard was raised by her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who claimed that Gypsy suffered from a range of severe medical conditions, including leukemia, muscular dystrophy, epilepsy and more. Dee Dee presented her daughter as a chronically ill child and garnered sympathy and support from the community. However, as Gypsy grew older, she started to suspect that she was not actually sick and that her mother had been the one causing her various illnesses. Fueled by years of manipulation, abuse, and a desire for freedom, Gypsy conspired with her online boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, to murder Dee Dee in 2015.
Trigger warnings for discussions on severe emotional and physical abuse, discussions about medical procedures and conditions, including Munchausen syndrome by proxy, and discussions of violent acts including the murder of Gypsy’s mother, Dee Dee. Listener discretion is strongly advised.
