In chapter 19, the Israelites reach the Mountain of God. Moses was the mediator between God and the people. The Lord offered His covenant that if they would fully obey Him, then they would be His treasured possession. The Israelites would become a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. 19:8a, "The people all responded together, 'We will do everything the Lord has said.'" Before the Lord laid out the 10 Commandments, He said, "I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery." Then: 1) You shall have no other gods before Me; 2) You shall not make for yourself an idol; 3) You shall not misuse the name of the Lord; 4) Remember the Sabbath Day and keep it holy; 5) Honor your father and mother; 6) You shall not murder; 7) You shall not commit adultery; 8) You shall not steal; 9) You shall not give false testimony (lie); and 10) You shall not covet. Chapter 20 ends with an explanation on how to set up an altar for their sacrifices to the Lord. They were to use uncut stones and not place it on steps, and then the Lord said, "Wherever I cause my name to be honored, I will come to you and bless you."
