Description

Lamentations is the 3rd book of the Major Prophets in the Christian Bible. In the Hebrew Bible it is in the Writings section. It is a set of 5 lament poems, 4 of which are acrostics using the Hebrew Alphabet, mourning the loss & destruction of Jerusalem and Judah by Babylon.  Traditionally it is thought to have been written by Jeremiah. Chapter one focuses on how alone Jerusalem is, and how she can not be comforted. There is also an acknowledgment that they are in  this situation because of their sin and turning from the Lord. The end of the chapter prays that the Lord will deal with Jerusalem's enemies, as the Lord has dealt with Jerusalem.
