In chapter 2 of Lamentations we see the theme is the Lord's anger or wrath, and "on that day," has happened. Due to the sin of Jerusalem and Judah "The Lord has become like an enemy" (2:5). The poet describes how bad it was in Jerusalem. Chapter 3 begins with the Lord's anger and he complains about his circumstances, but then he looks up and when He looks at the Lord and His faithfulness, he has hope. Chapter 4 looks again at the sorrow, and chapter 5 ends with the question "Why?" They wonder if the Lord has given up on them, but thankfully we know He has not!
