In Genesis Chapters 8 through 11, the ark comes to rest on the mountains of Ararat and Noah and his family leave it. God makes a covenant with Noah, promising never to destroy the earth through a flood again and providing the rainbow as a symbol of this promise. The descendants of Noah are listed and the earth is divided among them. The people of the earth are united and decide to build a city and a tower with its top in the heavens, but God confuses their language and they are unable to complete the city. As a result, they are scattered across the earth.
