In Job 29-31, Job reflects on the prosperity and respect he once had in his community. He was respected by the community and was a leader among the people. He helped the poor and was a protector of the fatherless. He was respected by the elders and was sought out for his wisdom and counsel. However, now that he is suffering, he feels forsaken and forgotten by God. He wonders why God has allowed him to suffer and be humiliated. He longs for the days when he was able to help others and make a difference in the world. Despite his suffering, Job remains steadfast in his belief that he has done nothing to deserve this punishment and he knows that God is just.
