Psalm 17: This is a prayer of David in which he appeals to God for protection from his enemies. David declares his innocence and asks God to test him and vindicate him. He also asks God to keep him safe from his enemies who are like ravenous lions.
Psalm 35: This is another prayer of David in which he asks God to fight against his enemies who have wronged him. David describes his enemies as deceitful and violent and asks God to deliver him from their attacks. He also promises to praise God when he is delivered.
Psalm 54: This psalm is a prayer of David when the Ziphites came to Saul and said, “Is not David hiding among us?” David asks God to save him from his enemies who are seeking to kill him. He also declares his confidence in God’s faithfulness and promises to offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving.
Psalm 63: In this psalm, David expresses his deep thirst for God and his longing to be in God’s presence. David declares that God’s love is better than life itself and praises God for his goodness and faithfulness. He also declares his confidence in God’s protection and promises to continue to seek God.
Vindication is a common theme in these psalms.
In Psalm 17, David asks God to protect him from his enemies who have accused him of wrongdoing, and he pleads with God to judge him based on his integrity. He says, "You have tested my heart; you have visited me in the night; you have tried me, and you will find nothing; I have purposed that my mouth will not transgress" (Psalm 17:3). David is confident that God will vindicate him because he knows that he has done nothing wrong.
Similarly, in Psalm 35, David asks God to fight against his enemies who have wronged him and declares his innocence. He says, "They reward me evil for good, to the sorrow of my soul. But as for me, when they were sick, my clothing was sackcloth; I humbled myself with fasting; and my prayer would return to my own heart. I paced about as though he were my friend or brother; I bowed down heavily, as one who mourns for his mother" (Psalm 35:12-14). David is confident that God will vindicate him and punish his enemies for their deceitful and violent actions.
In both of these psalms, David's desire for vindication is not simply a matter of personal pride or revenge, but rather a recognition that his enemies' accusations and attacks are ultimately an affront to God's justice and righteousne
