Description

Unveiled at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, the ferris wheel was the American answer to the Eiffel Tower, which debuted as the largest man-made structure at the 1889 World's Fair in Paris. George Washington Gale Ferris Jr., a structural engineer from Pittsburgh, came up with the idea to use a big steel wheel as the iconic structure of the fair. Also, HH Holmes was running around killing people. It was crazy.
