Episode 17
Take a listen as Amber describes how easy it is for a new "mum" who is determined to do everything right, but also is exhausted and overwhelmed, might fall into this "Mummy Culture" trap.

In her words......
My desire to give my boys the best possible start in life meant that I read widely for advice and information on how to be a good parent.
This led me to read the book, Raising A Secure Child by Kent Hoffman, Glen Cooper and Bert Powell. I loved this book and tried to apply the concepts as I learned them. It focuses on creating a secure relationship with your child and I wanted to be able to create this for myself, my husband and our boys. I was doing well applying the principles and creating the family relationships I wanted.

Then I read that “we consider a parent to be ‘gone’, or unavailable for their child, when they are under the influence of any drugs or alcohol”.

So, when I was comforting my son when he had woken late at night after a wine, my son knew the difference and knew that I wasn’t there for him?

knew what kind of parent I wanted to be and it wasn’t a parent with a hangover each morning, or a parent rushing their kids to bed so that they could pour a glass of wine. I didn’t want to be the kind of parent who fell asleep reading a bedtime story because they’d already had a couple of wines.

That was when I decided to look into alcohol and see how it was serving me.
I found the knowledge and the courage to take a break.
