Black Beauty by Anna Sewell
Published in 1877 contains 4 Parts and 49 chapters
All finished up, and what a story! I enjoyed his so much! Aside from the language differences here and there, you can definitely tell this was written in a different time period. And, as we know from the brief introduction to the story, Anna Sewell used this story to bring awareness to the plight of working animals. She had difficulty walking from the time she was a small child, resulting from an accident in which she broke both of her ankles (which did not heal properly) and she spent a good deal of time in a horse drawn buggy. She experienced many of the situations that we see in the story but I wonder if she ever spoke out. I think maybe she didn't and Black Beauty was her way of speaking out to those who treat their animals badly.
During the final chapter I really had to focusĀ to keep my voice steady as I was getting emotional. Partly because we were coming to the end of our journey, and partly due to the happiness I was feeling that Black Beauty had come to a wonderful place that he could live out the rest of his life in peace and comfort.
Thank you so much for listening, this was an absolute joy to share with you.
