Gender disappointment is a very real parenthood experience which involves holding a preference for having a daughter or a son, then experiencing emotional distress when baby’s sex does not match that vision. But disappointment is only the tip of the iceberg. Often the feelings to follow are ones of grief, guilt, or even shame.
