Formula 1 returns to Vegas in 2023 but this is not the first time F1 cars have fought for overtakes near the brightly colored, casino-filled streets of the Las Vegas Desert landscape. F1 ventured to Vegas in the Fall of 1981 and 1982 for the Caesars Palace Grand Prix which quickly became known for being one of the WORST tracks in F1 history. The elite drivers of the day, Piquet, Prost, and Rosberg suffered from heat exhaustion, injured their necks due to the track layout, and rebelled against F1 for hosting the race in a such a poorly designed location. The two Grand Prix that did occur were snooze-fests resulting in limited overtaking, half of the grids retiring each year, and huge Championship implications riding on a terrible race.
Join Turn 1 as we look at the disaster that was the Las Vegas/Caesars Palace Grand Prix!
