Stephen Drew shares his experiences gained from a bikepacking tour through Namibia's vast landscapes.
Stephen called this his Ride of Independance and his journey to taking on such a challenging route is full of overcoming adversity. Stephen's is an an experienced Mountain Biker, and regularly participated in the racing scene at events such as the Trans Alps. His first experiences of touring were actually taken on a motorbike and it was during one of these trips that a freak accident resulted in an above the knee amputation of his leg. The motorcycle accident was a truly life changing event, but listening to Stephen recall how he made his way through the rehabilitation and recovery process, I could tell that he was focused on getting the most out of his life. From learning how to adjust to life with one leg, to using a prosthetic limb to cycle - which is very rare for an above the knee amputee, to taking on a multi day bikepacking trip through some of the harshest landscapes in Namibia. I'm certain listening to Stephen's story will give you a huge sense of wanderlust, and challenge your own perspectives on what is possible.
