It is possible to have it all, with a bit of creativity and a supportive community. Yamel went back to nursing school when her oldest girls were already more self-sufficient (able to get themselves snacks and bathe on their own). But for those who have younger kids or a more demanding and intensive career, it’s still possible to have it all. The truth is, it's not only important, but it's also healthy for moms to have their own identity. Together we can work through the whirlwind of instances that are bound to arise as women nurture their careers and their little ones.
Sacrifice
It can feel like you’re making a huge mistake or as if there’s not enough time to prioritize boss-life and mom-life. This can be an opportunity for kids to spend more time with their grandparents or other family members who can help make seasons of long hours and late nights of work or school possible in an environment that will still be nourishing for the children.
Intention
The effort put into relationships with children, disagreements and contributes to the closeness and overall positive relationship. The effort to have and maintain tightly bonded relationships is tough, but possible and completely worthwhile – especially in the times when a goal or aspiration has to take the front seat. To deepen these relationships, it helps to have common interests to bond over (even if this means faking some interests in things that give your children joy just to spend more time together).
