Hosted by one of the stars of TV's #1 show at the time, Rob Reiner (All in the Family) episode 3 of NBC's Saturday Night may not go down as one of the funniest episodes in SNL history, but it certainly is monumental! We see more of the cast than we did in episode 2 (although that's not difficult) which provide some seminal bits that help the show find its footing. There are fabulous performances by special guests Andy Kaufman, The Lockers and Penny Marshall, and there is a sketch from guests Denny Dillon and Mark Hampton. We are treated to more from The Muppets and an epic film by Rob Reiner's best friend- Albert Brooks. This episode also includes one of the best musical performances by a cast member with an unbelievable performance by John Belushi!
This episode has moments that are excellent and moments that are down-right hard to watch, so all-in-all does that make for a good show?
