Some say his murder was engineered by the United States government who perceived Lennon to be due to his remarks against United States involvement in the Vietnam war and his association with social activist and anti-war leader, Jerry Rubin.

Was Lennon hunted down and assassinated by the CIA? It seems possible since the doorman at the Dakota where Lennon lived, who allegedly watched the shooting, Joaquin Sanjenis Perdomo, exiled to US from Cuba where he joined the CIA and played a vital role putting together Operation 40, the Bay of Pigs.
