In this episode we continue our discussion of Busyness, a barrier to balance via a lively interview with the one and only Sandy Cooper from the Balanced Momcast. (Make sure you take a listen to the first part of this series in Episode #11 of the UN-Perfect Podcast).
Types of Poor Time Managers
Sandy introduces the third type of poor time manager, the perfectionist. She shares her personal experience as a perfectionist who spends excessive time on tasks, always seeking improvement. The perfectionist doesn't have too much on their plate but struggles with managing time efficiently.
Sandy then unpacks for us the fourth type, the overcommitted busy person, and its reasons:
· People pleaser: Saying yes to everything due to fear, addiction to approval, and root causes of fear and pride.
· Feeling trapped and controlling: Justifying doing everything themselves, rooted in control issues and lack of boundaries.
· Falling into the comparison trap: Adding tasks due to comparing oneself to others, without considering individual capacity.
The Perils of Comparison
We discuss comparing oneself with people in different seasons of life and the importance of recognizing one's own capacity, highlighting the drawbacks of this type of comparison. Comparison often leads to disastrous consequences, even in biblical narratives.
The Overcommitted Person Who Values Busyness
Finally, Sandy uncovers the fifth type of overcommitted person: the one who values busyness as a badge of honor, discussing their misconceptions about busyness, fear of disappointing God, and belief that busyness is godly. Insights are given into the various reasons why individuals end up with too much on their plates. The importance of self-reflection and soul searching is emphasized to identify one's root causes of busyness.
Steps to Break Free from Busyness
Sandy reiterates the significance of understanding the root causes of busyness using the analogy of treating a headache with different solutions for different root causes.
Listeners are encouraged to engage in soul searching, prayer, fasting, and writing to determine their root causes and work towards balance in their lives.
